Dive Deeper Into Scripture – 101
Scripture is important but often times can be pretty overwhelming. Where do you start? The beginning? Or maybe you’re reading scripture but aren’t getting out of it as much as you’d like to. Today, I’m sharing the key questions my women’s bible study asks when we study scripture. Often times between bible studies, we will pick verses or even a book to go through together. Each time, we ask ourselves these questions. This list was originally given to us by our church, Radius LA. Some of them are a bit repetitive but all are valuable for when you want to dive deeper into scripture.
1. What stands out to you in this passage?
2. What words or ideas are repeated in this passage?
3. What does this passage confirm about your understanding of God’s character?
4. What does this passage challenge about your understanding of God’s character?
5. What is God valuing in this passage?
6. How does this passage invite you to grow?
You can do this in a group or by journaling by yourself. If it’s something that really challenges you, I would encourage you to bring it to someone you trust.
“But everything exposed by the light becomes visible–and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.” Ephesians 5:13
After asking these questions, you’re encouraged to pray using language and learnings from the scripture as a way to praise God for the truths revealed and to cement what you’ve learned deepening into your mind, spirit, and heart.
That’s it! Simple but effective. As a bonus, I’ve put these questions on a little card for you if you want to print it out and stick it in your bible, journal, or bible study.
