March was a crazy month. It was still a bit rainy here in LA but there were a couple of days wedged in there with 80 degree sunshine. I didn’t get pinched on St Patrick’s day because I wore this fashion season’s favorite green: Olive. (Scout wore a mini leprechaun hat because he’s nothing if not mischievous) I worked a lot and didn’t quite get back into my healthy habits but started my trek to get there. Hope your March was filled with a bit of extra luck and no pinches!
Looking back on last month, I had a mug and a book included in the faves so we can see where the obsessions lie. Just wanted to get that out there.
Reading
Last week, I talked about putting self-care first. (Read here) After writing the post, I kept thinking back to this book sitting on my shelf: Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body by Kate Hudson. I’ve been wanting to read it for months and it’s all about loving yourself and healthy habits! Perfect for the head space I’m currently operating within.
I love to crack this book open while sitting in the sunshine with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. It gets me in the right mindset before I get started with the day. Also, can we just agree that Kate Hudson is such an awesome #girlboss?! She’s adorable and killing it. Absolutely love her. I’ll have to do a full review on the book once I make it through but currently, it’s filling my girl power soul.
You guys – the Skimm is everything. After the cluster mess that the media seems to be in these days, it’s really nice to get everything in one concise, funny, and light way. Each morning (M-F), I get an e-mail with a summary of what I need to know. I don’t know about you guys but I really want to stay informed but I just want the facts. I want to know what’s going on, who it involves, and what it impacts.
It’s important to be informed but turning on the news these days is such an overload, it’s easier to ignore it entirely. But with the Skimm, I’m informed, I know both sides, and I can keep going on with my day knowing at least a piece of what’s going on in my country. Or the next book I should pick up. Or whatever else you can find in 10 articles.
Loving
I know, I know. 2 more mugs. BUT they were a gift so I really can’t be blamed. My mother knows me all too well. I literally say “I just wanna stay home and hang out with my dog” verbatim to my mom at least once a week. Also, the “Sorry, I can’t. I have plans with my dog” — yep, I say that too.
The best part about these mugs besides the part that it marries two of my obsessions – Scout and mugs – but it’s also from a website (iheartdogs.com) that donates meals, toys, and other necessities to shelter dogs with every purchase. For instance 5 shelter dogs were fed with the purchase of each mug. Therefore, these 2 mugs fed 10 shelter dogs. Seriously, what could be better?
They also have emergency cards for your wallet telling first responders that you have a dog that’s home alone in case you’re seriously injured. I have one – it sits right behind my driver’s license. Also important emergency items that currently sit in my house: the sticker for your doors and windows that indicate there are animals in the house so if there’s an emergency, they know there’s an animal inside. I also have the poisonous foods for dogs magnet that lives on my fridge.
With each purchase, your money goes to a shelter dog in need or to a good cause. They clearly state what your purchase will provide (i.e. meals for 5 shelter dogs). It’s amazing/incredible/now my favorite website. No joke.
Just by signing up for their newsletter, they donate a meal to a dog in need.
Just by looking through their website, I’ve already found about 5 more things that I need to have (and are already in my shopping cart).
Wearing
I know that I’m the hundredth blogger to talk about the Adidas Superstars. But they are so stinking cute I can’t get over myself. I have NEVER gotten more compliments on a pair of shoes. I also have never gone shopping through department stores stopping to look in the mirror not at my face but my feet!! Love them. Can’t go back now. They’re forever a part of my wardrobe. And these shoes that everyone is loving, they came out in 1969 – what?! How awesome is that? I’m digging it.
Watching
After a long day at work, my favorite way to decompress is to turn on a tv show. I honestly love tv. I have a lot of friends who don’t watch any at all so I definitely feel like I’m in the minority on this one. But I can’t help it. I watch a lot of it and a wide variety of shows. I’m constantly picking up new ones. This week, I’m going to start watching Big Little Lies and I have a feeling that’s going to be in next month’s favorites. But for March, this is what I couldn’t click off of:
Alone is a documentary series on the History Channel. The premise is they put 10 people (only men in the first season, men and women in second and third season) in the wilderness. They are too far apart to reach each other so they are utterly, you guessed it – alone. They are given certain items that they automatically are given and 10 special items they have to choose from a list. Whoever survives the longest gets $500,000. You don’t know if anyone has left or if you’re second to last. People tap out when they can’t hack it anymore.
It’s such an interesting human psychology study. What makes people break? How do they survive in the situations? What do people do when they’re completely alone?
Binge watched the first season while I was stuck in bed with the flu. Made it a lot more tolerable.
This show for some reason, has me hooked. Not entirely sure why to be honest. It’s on E and it has me pressing play on the DVR every week.
It’s a different side of Hollywood that I haven’t seen before. The leading lady in this series is offered 10 million dollars to be in a relationship with Hollywood’s favorite actor. The show is about how it unfolds, what kooky things are happening with a group the actor is involved with and the twists and turns they face.
I don’t know what to tell ya, I’m loving it.
In this mystery/drama, Imposters, there is a woman who comes in and out of unsuspecting people’s lives to marry them so she can take their money. Sounds boring but she’s also a part of an entire operation run by a sick version of Charlie from Charlie’s Angels called “the doctor”. Quickly, past victims team up to find the woman who ripped them all off. Can’t get enough!
Listening
I loved the live action Beauty and the Beast. I love that they added more of a French style. They filled some of the holes that my favorite princess’ story had in the original, animated version. The additional songs and come on, Emma Watson is killing it. I LOVED the movie and absolutely can’t wait for the movie to come out on dvd, preorder anyone? But since I do have to wait, the Beauty And The Beast (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will have to do.
The music fills my house just about every day. Taking me back to the fairytale I’ve loved my whole life. I mean, the beast’s song gets me every time. And then it gets me again when I play it on repeat. I may have a problem…
That’s it! Those are my March favorites! What were you loving this month? Any recommendations? Leave them in the comments below and have an amazing week!
