Spring Clean Your Life

March 25, 2019

“The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day He created Spring.”

– Bernard Williams

I honestly don’t have a favorite season. Each one brings something special. Summer is the time for family and vacations, pools and flip-flops, lemonade and cookouts. Fall is for sweaters and boots, chai lattes and long walks with crunching leaves. Winter slows us down. It brings holidays, hot chocolate, ice skating, snowball fights, and reading by the fire. Then, there’s Spring. Spring brings rain and flowers, perfect weather days, and hope and renewal.

Every season brings traditions and a common one that comes with Spring is Spring cleaning. Pulling everything out and wiping it down, getting the curtains cleaned, moving the furniture and finding that thing you lost or the toy the dog lost. While this is important and something I take very seriously (Scout hair can be found everywhere!), a process I’ve found just as vital is not just spring cleaning my house but spring cleaning my life.

Declutter. Make margins. Create room and space. Create in general.

Don’t know where to start? Here are the top 5 things I do to spring clean my life.

1. Clean out your phone

Delete unwanted pictures and upload pictures to save to the cloud, to the computer, to whatever

Uninstall apps you don’t use anymore

2. Deep dive into finances

Make a new budget or update your old one

Call the phone or cable company and see if there are any new deals

Take out a little cash to have some on hand, reorder checks should the odd time you need one comes up

Tighten things up, try to save more, and make sure that budget syncs up with the rest of your life

3. Get inspired

Create a playlist to serve as your new soundtrack

Spend time outdoors

Read a good book

Take a trip

Visit a museum

Create anything. It doesn’t have to be “good”.

Do something new

4. Move your body

Go on a hike

Follow a yoga video on Youtube (I love Yoga with Adrienne!)

Take your dog for a walk

Go rock climbing

Take a class

Try something new, challenge your body

5. Do something nice for your loved ones or for strangers!

Offer to lend a hand on a project

Volunteer at a local organization

Watch your friend’s kids so they can have a night to themselves

Cook dinner for your friends

Happy cleaning my friends,

I enjoyed reading all your ideas and look forward to incorporate one or two from each of your categories. Having four seasons here in the Midwest, spring truly is a rebirth on many levels. Spring is welcomed and I feel solar energized. This energy allows me to continue the annual spring purging of the house in and out!
    Thanks for the tips!

I miss having four seasons more than anything!! Spring is always so refreshing after a harsh or long winter. Coming from Colorado, I totally empathize. With nature “spring cleaning”, it makes me want to too! Glad you got some spring cleaning for your life ideas!

The third picture is why TLC said DONT go chasing waterfalls. But you know, just a flesh wound.

Besides injury and Kenna’s forgotten sandwich, it was an absolute perfect hike. Plenty of shade, little bit of a breeze, stunning views, and good company. What all the best California living days are made of 💛
